Inter Miami is still the team to beat, but the easy days might be over. The betting market shows them as the favorites to defend their crown, but the gap is shrinking fast. It feels like watching a tight game at the Battery where anyone can strike at any moment.

According to Yahoo Sports MLS, the 2026 MLS Cup odds show a very competitive field. While Miami holds the top spot, Nashville SC has emerged as a real danger after taking a large lead at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Vancouver Whitecaps are also right there, leading the West and sitting among the top contenders for the title.

Why the Favorites Are Vulnerable

I don’t think anyone should count Miami out yet, but the pressure is real. The race is tightening as we hit the stretch run of the regular season. It is hard to stay on top when teams like Nashville are playing such dominant soccer. If you look at the history, we have seen plenty of title runs end in heartbreak. You have to respect the grind of a long season.

The playoffs are going to be a gauntlet. Per Yahoo Sports MLS, the top nine clubs from each conference make the cut. The format is brutal because the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds have to play a single-elimination Wild Card match. If you win that, you then have to face the conference’s No. 1 seed. It is a heavy load for any team to carry.

The Road to December

The schedule is set, and the tension will only grow. The postseason starts with those Wild Card matches on Wednesday, November 18. Everything leads up to the big day: the MLS Cup is scheduled for December 20.
